Why @24hourfitness matters to me

I’ve been saying for years that if you are about to become homeless or have limited access to the amenities of life :join a gym. A shower easily brings dignity back.

2 years ago I purchased a 2 year pass at Costco and started coming as often as I can -early before work and sometimes sneaking out in the middle of the night for a swim. Angel and the staff were always welcoming and encouraging and kind which was quite the change from my home life.

For those of you playing along from home , you’ll remember I had a baby 4 Yeats ago and the relationship with her father started well until it deteriorated into violence and other bad things. He especially hated that I joined the gym to remove the baby fat and reduce stress. See, I like it here. People are nice and I feel good about me when I’m here. He started leaving our two year old alone and unattended in fast food restaurants while I worked out so I said I would bring her with me. He then got very demanding and sneaky with the most eyes and my credit card would go missing (but magically charges for gassing his car appeared). I tried to come at lunch from work but that only gave me 20 minutes and he knew my suits or gym clothes were not in the home. Finally he said he had called 24hour Fitness and canceled my membership.

I never doubted him – but I did throw him out of my home.

A few weeks ago I got the letter from 24hour Fitness that my membership was expiring. Expiring? I could have been coming, I would have come.

So, today is the last day of my membership and I came last night and today.

When I started telling folks to join a gym to keep their lives at a level of dignity :I did not know it would mean so much to me.
