Medi-Cal no longer covers glasses, and many people don’t have enough money for private insurance and earn too much for Medi-Cal anyway. How can they find glasses?
VSP and Sight for Students
“Sight for Students is a VSP charity that provides free vision exams and glasses to low-income, uninsured children. The program operates nationally through a network of community partners who identify children in need and VSP network doctors who provide the eyecare services.”
The Gift of Sight and Lens Crafters
The Gift of Sight is product of One Sight and clients are referred to Lens Crafters by non-profit charitable organisations.
A letter referring the client is faxed to the local Lens Crafter’s store. STORE LOCATOR. The letter MUST INCLUDE the Tax ID number of the charity. It will also help to have contact information for a case manager so the store can schedule the appointment and have a reliable point of contact.
Be prepared to wait a few months for appointment. It is mid-June and the Burbank store is booked through September.
For Children who are not going through The Gift of Sight and don’t have insurance, the cost of glasses is discounted.
