In Vancouver they passed a law allowing homeowners to legally convert and rent out their garages. this is called “Laneway Housing”. The units are 500 sq ft and can not be sold , only rented. Here is the article LINK
Some concern is about where the cars that origionally would go into the buildings should now e parked as well as where the tenants will park. If there is not enough parking then the idea is just annoying.
Other places have thought about converting garages as a temporary means to house the homeless.
